Scone's Old Court Theatre gets a new lease of life
The Old Court Theatre is listed on the NSW Heritage Register and is a site of state significance. With the rising cost of maintaining the heritage buildings and significant capital investment required to keep the buildings remain intact, The Scone Community Amateur Dramatic Society (SCADS) started a campaign with support from the Upper Hunter Shire Council to begin restoration work to ensure the buildings can be used for future generations.
The project consisted of structural work and internal modifications such as improved seating, lighting and sound systems a priority. Disabled access and modern toilets were also included in the second stage of the project.
The restoration project attracted support quickly on our www.heartofourcommunity.com.au website and enabled SCADS to receive part funding from Regional Australia Bank.
SCADS president Scott White said the refurbishments represented ‘a new chapter’ for drama in Scone.
