Scams awareness week
Scams Awareness Week runs from 25–29 August, and this year we’re joining the national effort to help Australians stay informed and protected from scams. With scams becoming increasingly sophisticated, it’s more important than ever to know how to spot them and take action.
Be scam smart
Scams can affect anyone. Whether it’s a fake investment opportunity, a phishing email, or someone impersonating a trusted organisation, scammers are constantly finding new ways to deceive. But you’re not powerless. By following three simple steps: Stop. Check. Protect. You can take control and reduce your risk.
What you can do
Stop
Take a moment before sharing personal or financial information. Scammers often create urgency to pressure you into acting quickly. If something feels off, pause and think.
Check
Verify who you’re dealing with. Contact the organisation directly using official contact details from trusted sources, not the ones provided in suspicious messages. Ask a friend or family member for a second opinion if you’re unsure.
Protect
If you believe you’ve been affected by a scam, act quickly by contacting our team to help secure your accounts and investigate the incident. You should also update your passwords and report the incident to Scamwatch.
