With roots in regional NSW and customers throughout the country, Regional Australia Bank has grown to become a premier banking alternative.
Who we are
Regional Australia Bank is a customer owned bank that has been helping regional Australians achieve their lifestyle goals for almost 50 years. We have a reputation for being flexible, personable and being able to make the complex simple. With roots in regional NSW and head office located in Armidale, Regional Australia Bank has grown to be one of the premier banking alternatives to the ‘Big Four’ banks. Unlike the ‘retail’ approach taken by many competing institutions, we continue to add value to our customers by recognising everyone’s circumstances are different. This means we can provide personalised financial solutions, working with our customers to save them time, money and effort.
Why we’re different
We’re focused strongly on everything that makes regional Australia special – and we provide a new standard of banking to the tens of thousands of regional Australians who’ve chosen us to help them achieve their lifestyle goals, through sound guidance, competitive interest rates and fairer fees. Above all, we’re all about building better financial relationships with our customers – and that’s something that can’t often be said of the nation’s larger retail banks.
Customer owned – putting people before profit
Unlike the investor banks (e.g. Big Four) whose main interests are to generate profits in order to deliver dividends for shareholders, our customers are our shareholders. This means our focus is to deliver value to our customers. We demonstrate tangible value through quality, competitively priced products and a superior level of service from specialists. Further, as part of our commitment to champion regional prosperity, we pledge more than 5% of our profits back into grassroots community initiatives.
We exist for the financial well-being of our customers and the sustainability of our communities. We will champion regional prosperity at every endeavour, by helping customers achieve their lifestyle goals as well as delivering social and environmental returns to our communities at every possible opportunity.
We have a strong branch presence throughout regional NSW, including the New England North West, Central West, Mid-North Coast and Greater Newcastle regions. Our banking style, however, affords our customers the ability to take advantage of customer-owned banking regardless of their geography. We deliver our unique style of banking that reflects regional Australian values to all Australian communities, both regional and metropolitan. Our specialist staff enjoy nothing more than having great conversations over the phone with our customers, but we’re also here for you through our user-friendly online banking solutions to cover your day-to-day banking needs.
Our dedicated staff are specialists in their fields and have been carefully selected to deliver on our promise to our customers. Located in regional centres like Coffs Harbour, Tamworth, Newcastle and Dubbo, they have a common understanding of regional needs and culture, and get a real kick out of helping individuals achieve their lifestyle goals. Moreover, they share a deep affection for seeing our communities succeed, which is why you’ll often see them coaching the soccer team, working on committees or helping raise money for the next big community project.
Integrity, respect and fairness are the underlying values that guide our business in our dealings with customers, stakeholders and the wider community. We’ve based our values on a mindset that regional Australians share - an appreciation for relationships built on trust and reliability, with an understanding of the significance of community and the feeling of unity and belonging. Whether you live in regional Australia, a metropolitan city or across the world – we’re bringing regional Australian values to you.
Fifty years ago, various groups of people in our regions decided to band together and create something for each other, without the distraction of delivering profits in the interests of financial shareholders. Today our customers remain our shareholders, and we continue to deliver a style of service that is valued by many, right across Australia.
Our humble beginnings start with New England Staff Credit Union at The University of New England in 1969. Following mergers with Peel Valley Credit Union in 2004, Orana Credit Union in 2008 and Hunter Mutual in 2010, we became New England Mutual, Orana Mutual and Hunter Mutual in the relevant geographical areas, falling under the overarching brand of the Community Mutual Group. In 2016 we changed our name to Regional Australia Bank to better reflect who we are, what we do and the commitment we have to the prosperity of the individuals and communities in regional Australia. Our most recent merger was in 2019 with Holiday Coast Credit Union, further enhancing our branch-footprint into the Mid-North Coast region of NSW.
Our vision is that Regional Australia Bank will define what it means to be at the heart of our community. We celebrate being regional and continually demonstrate what the added value of being more connected to each other can bring. The success of our business will be determined by how well we extend compassion and share our passion to be the champions for regional prosperity. We aim to be a beacon - a regionally owned and operated 'community chest', that will be a conduit for connecting people and a model for creating better and more sustainable places to live. Being connected with regional Australia and its people is, without doubt, the most compelling and inspiring part of our brand.
